COACHES

Varsity Head Coach: Heidi Springer

Heidi played four years of varsity soccer at Rockford. After graduating in 1993, she went to Western State College of Colorado. She played four years of intercollegiate club soccer at WSC. After graduating in the winter of 1997 she moved back to Rockford and started coaching in 1998 with Harv DeGood. She coached the JV B team for her first two years and has coached the JV A team up until this year. In the fall of 2005 she accepted the girls varsity position wherein she led the Varsity to their first ever District title.. Heidi has been coaching the freshman boys since 2003. Besides soccer, Heidi enjoys skiing, boating, camping, training for triathlons and spending time with her son Dylan, Husband Matt and Dog Taylor.


Assistant Varsity Coach: Nicole Brunner

Nicole Brunner played soccer for Rockford received her varsity letter all four years of high school and graduated in 2002. After graduation Nicole attended Cornerstone University where she played soccer for one year. She ended her soccer playing career after an injury which occurred while playing Trinidad’s National Team on a mission trip to Trinidad. Nicole graduated in 2005 from Cornerstone with a Bachelor of Science in Youth Ministry and Bible. Last spring she helped Heidi with the JV soccer team. Nicole married Eric Brunner January 6, 2006.


Assistant Varsity Coach: Nick Holton

Nick played soccer for Rockford and was a All Conference and All District selection in 2001 when they won the District Championship. He is the holder of a Level "E" license along with the National "D" coaching license. Along with being an assistant for the men's varsity team in 2007 he has also been an assistant with East Lansing Men's varsity from 2003-2005 and won a Division II State Championship. Nick has coached with the Michigan State Premier Soccer League Division I along with many camps. He brings a contagious passion to the Girls Soccer team this year along with a strong education on the methods of teaching and coaching.

 

 

 

 


JV Coach: Amira Ponne

This is Amira Ponne’s first year teaching for and coaching soccer at Rockford High School. She has three years prior coaching experience at the high school level, spending time at both Catholic Central and Forest Hills Northern. Coach Ponne grew up playing soccer and continued playing at the college level for Aquinas from 1996-2000, where she was a four year starter and a three year captain. She is excited to share her passion, love, and knowledge for the game with her Rockford J.V. team and is looking forward to a fun and challenging season, filled with growth, friendship, and team unity.


Freshman Coach: Sarah Pennington

Sarah Pennington is a graduate of Petoskey High School’s class of 2001. She played soccer all four years of her high school career earning all region honorable mention her senior year. Sarah then headed to Aquinas College where she played on the women’s soccer team for another four years and ended her soccer career as a WHAC player of the week and Academic All American. Sarah graduated from Aquinas College in May of 2005 with her Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and Mathematics and has now made her home at Rockford High School teaching Geometry and Applied Math.
